Oh, the plain!

So I got my enrolment confirmed and all, student card and not so everything yet. But the account works, even if I got it late. A bit too late to consider, seeing that here I have to schedule my own timetable, rather than adhereing to a certain fixed period.

The bad thing is, since it came not-so-early, some (notably two) of my slots are clashing with other classes. Not that I have a choice, seeing as they're the only ones left.

Dang, and dang.

Agh. Not WAAARGH.

A few things that suck.

1. BloggerBot - why is it so hard for me just to enter pictures? Must I tend to third-party software that already does not make my computer slower? Why does the internal picture linker not work? Gah.

2. My current connection - It fluctuates a lot these days. Must change it. Now. Before I encounter another timeout and go nuts.

3. Uni - My enrolment I took to them a week gone past, and whilst other people would get their letters, I got none. So I went to complain and looks like they have not processed it yet. It really matters when you need your student account to make matters of your timetables, et cetera. Bad luck or incompetence? I think perhaps both.

This is week one so far for me, the first week of my semester, so I'm not subject to any subjects (meh) as of yet. Instead, there are a myriad of activities that I'd have to attend, or not if I want to. Compulsory ones include the Unix sessions and et cetera.

So I get into one called 'C Shot evening' not too long ago, and then the three of us (excluding the lecturer, seeing it was an evening class. People show up less for class in the night, of course, but anyways...) set off to work away on the comps.

Trouble is, the comps are set to Unix. Sun, if you want to be particular about it, and my knowledge of anything Unix is only minimal. I do have SuSe on my comp, but I find no reason what to use it for. As of yet. Perhaps the coming times will see to that. There's the GUI of course, and two little xterms (command-line windows) for you to use. So they type away, and I'm a bit stumped. It has to be done in vi, not that the lecturer minded, but for my learning, I did it anyway.

Which brings me to remember, my previous college used to have Unix machines in their labs. They were confusing and not as pretty as Windows, and of course I remember not using and feeling disinterested in them. I just didn't know how to use one! The only one who did was Chow, because of his previous exposure.

Not long after that, they introduced .NET into the systems, which I didn't take too well to. Why add in something when you take away Unix? I come to another part of the world and they show me how necessary it is to use this, while back home, the penguin's adversary takes all the credit. Not to say that the Panes are bad to use, albeitly evil, but we should have a fair exchange of all things, should we not?

Oh, the flavour!

I got a bit bored on Saturday, so I decided to do something out of the ordinary, as is usual in myself. Out of the ordinary, but at the same time a situation that doesn't release too much of a backlash. For instance, toying around with accumulated gunpowder from firecrackers in my earlier youth, or the possibly legal issues that would contend if I were to build a crossbow in my home country (I really did, and had it all drawn out before finding out that it was illegal). Which also went out the window for the dreamed-of spud cannon. Anything within the law, so cooking wasn't that much of a hassle, and its easier to clean.

And thats how I came to make chocolat-o ramen (seeing how Japanese like to attach the 'o' to each English word they cannot transform), a combination of chocolate and of course, ramen. And the quote a picture paints a thousand words? Aye to that.

As the story goes, there was originally three portions to the packet of ramen on the left, although the other two were used for more conventional reasons.

Vittoria chocolate powder. A bit more classy as you can tell by the cover. European-style, it also claims.

Cooking. Yeah, really.

The end result. I added milk, as one would do so when faced with chocolatey cornflakes.

Extra! Extra! Read all about it!

I changed the CSS completely to make it look like my original site: Mine, all mine, which I wanted to keep on using, but I wasn't able to update, mainly because its a pain to edit HTML every now and then. Especially when you're doing it from a dynamic point of view.

Nothing really flashy as compared to some other sites. Just plain old CSS, but I feel alright anyways.

Ever get writer's bloc? I do, some of the time. There was a time when the ailment was a relatively unknown thing to my senses. So I must say, oh how glorious were the days of inspiration, where I could just come up with a piece of paper and write down whatever I felt like writing and make it feel good.

For a recap of daily events, I met up with a pal from back home (home country meaning), and showed him around town. A bit easier for him, as there was someone to guide him here and there, unlike me, having to rely on telephone to get to use certain amenities. And don't forget the mistakes, oh the mistakes, and how costly they were! Mistakes are fine, errors are tolerable in the world, so long as it doesn't take a certain regrettable amount of cash. Its a real-life parody of the "Dare-to-fail" phrase that we see sometimes in different parts of the globe.

And the weather is cold, as he complains. I like it anyway, being a break from a constant sun and humidness. 34 Celsius everyday is nothing really to shout about. Something to start yelling, true, because it gets a bit boring.

Dibs on the uni for giving us free food during this fortnight-long orientation. They could do a better job with cooking Asian food, nonetheless.

Old, but still pretty gold.

I bought this on Sunday. Old yes, but still fun. Never really got to play it properly, yaknow.

Jot 'em down.

The trouble with bureaucracies and/or administrations is that there is too much running about involved. Namely said to those who have to apply for something, if you can get my meaning. If you have ever gone to the immigration department in Damansara Heights or so, you'd know exactly what I'm talking about.

"Please fill in this form, and take it to counter so-and-so." "Sorry, we don't take this form, please fill in this."

More often than not, the line is a rather long one, and there is only one counter to cater for the likes of hundreds. At the end of the day, it would be possible to feel like a cattle ranch. Join the herd!, and brush alongside the railings that lead you to your counters. Its the wait that maddens sometimes.

Better a bit here, albeit as confusing. To be a bit more specific on my behalf, I went to enrol for me new course, and there was a bit of running for me to do. Earlier on, due to vague information and one being a mistake on my part, I came at the wrong times. One yesterday and the other being the other week.

Was packed a bit today, for a small room to be packed. People lining up to get their ears marked, I mean registered, into the uni system. Had to ask a few questions, follow the line to the respective room (ala-Escape from New York), get some things done, and be done with it.

Time was taken of course, but then, what isn't usually. There isn't such a thing as the presence of no-time, not yet perhaps, if I know what I'm perceiving in the first place. Finished before they closed, lucky enough on my part, and got home after that.

Fairly eventful, with a brief idea of what I'm going to expect. Hopes I have fun, though.

Media for the masses

And so it begins. Or already has a few days ago, to the pilot of this page as we see it.

The entry of the blog to the Internet some time back, which might be heralded in later years as a means of supplying personal histories for the public to view.

Well, I'm pretty much still thinking about the services of Blogspot, and am considering whether it was a good use of time to be spending, keying in my everyday details for other people to read. Gone are the days where diary-writers would scream in indignation when their siblings or likewise would chance upon their books and look at every detail written down. No, not today. Let the world know what I ate today, where I shopped, and the pictures of the rotten tomatoes that fellow in the market tried to sell to me. Lament about a poor sex life and so many things that was once considered private.

Privacy? Hah! The concept today is almost as gone as the Age of Reason. Who'd have thought that there might have been the presence of an all-seeing eye of Big Brother, and I don't mean God. Cameras describing our every move, satellites to enhance this, bringing about the reality of a 1984-ish situation, minus the extremely stringent restrictions.

Such a scenario has yet to take form, though it would be hopeful to take a fancy that it would come about as the prophets of doom might put it.

To put it shortly, which one would you prefer? The masses paying attention to your daily life with the filteration of your consent, or a select group of people without yours truly. One might go along the path of ridicule as people may or may not marvel at your daily experience, depending on how you portray yourself and your day. The other, having awareness on what you do, and whether the minor attentions to your life are worth their while in the long run, whatever the long run has in store for them.

As time changes, we realize that the pros and cons change as well, but the fundamentals stay the same.

Just a thought.

Dong dong dong chang dong dong dong chang (sound familiar?)

Please forgive the badness of the 's. They overlapped the borders, apparently. I'm still not used to this thing called a blog, yet. And I am going to do so, soon. Yada yada yada, yes.

Actually I don't have much to say, really. So Gong Hei Fatt Choy! to everybody reading this.

And the clock strikes three.

I have yet to touch on the CSS, as some of you might see, no different from the day before. Patience is a virtue, man! Hold on, and you might see a better looking place. Or something totally minimalist, which with proper guidance and yada yada will get you quite a pretty-looking page.

But you all probably know that a page without pictures to look at is plain vanilla even if it does have a nice CSS, or content. Even novels for one thing, have cover art on their paperbacks, thus instilling a level of imagination for people to begin with. Or the quote, a picture paints a thousand words.

Second Shot

Here I am in Australia. Funny don'tcha think, that the thought of reality finally hits you in the end. Weeks went by where I'd be saying to meself, "Oh, I'm going. OK then", without much a thought where and why, but in the final hours, I began to say, "I'm actually going!" Didn't pinch me skin to find out if it was a dream or not.

I'll go down one step by one.
3rd February

Got to the airport with friends and family, said goodbyes and all. And if there's one thing I'd have to say is, please, please guys -you know who you people are- shut up! :S I wouldn't say that too seriously though, because it was a bit funny at the time. Telling me to take care and make sure the bomb doesn't go off early, or something like that. Please guys! Its an airport, anytime security could just come down, take me away and strip-search, whatever.

Sometimes I'm thankful that I wasn't born in the U.S. They don't take too kindly to little pranks anymore. Sad.

I got to the aircraft, and it took off without incident, well, incident meaning that nothing really untoward would have happened in the case of planes and stuff. Perhaps I was a bit afraid, (but only in a fun sort of way, jokingly) having watched the Terminal about a week before. They'd have to stuff a whole village in the terminal would that have to happen.

An 8-hour flight, even if I was hoping for a bit more. I sometimes like long flights. We touched down in Melbourne, at about 8.10 a.m. minus Daylight Savings Time. Why'd they have to do that anyway, you know, Daylight Savings? If the same thing happened in Malaysia, people would still be getting to work even if it was pitch black, 7 o'clock in the morning. It's an advantage, I'm told. People get to wake up late in the morning, which is a blessing, for some like Nem, who has never woken a single morning willingly.

PS. Am working on the CSS. Its not very pretty at the moment.
